Brighton have signed Nordsjaelland winger Ibrahim Osman for £17m. This deal could rise to £19.5m with add-ons.
Who is Ibrahim Osman?
Osman caught the attention of many Premier League clubs including Brighton, West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham.
The 19-year-old began playing in the Nordsjaelland senior team last season. He scored three goals in 15 appearances.
This season he has made 29 appearances – scoring four goals and assisting five. He played in all of Nordsjaelland’s Europe Conference League matches. Unfortunately, they weren’t able to qualify for the knockout rounds as they finished in third place in Group H.
Osman’s preferred position is on the wing but he has played as a centre forward in a couple of matches.
Osman has yet to experience playing for his international club Ghana. He didn’t receive an AFCON call-up. Ghana were knocked out in the group stage.
At just 19 years of age, Osman has a bright future ahead of him.
When will Osman make his Brighton debut?
Brighton fans will have to wait till next season to see the 19-year-old as the deal went through past deadline day. Osman will become a Brighton player on July 1.
It’ll be fascinating to see how he will operate in a Roberto De Zerbi team. Brighton have impressed many with their recruiting in recent seasons.
They signed Moises Caicedo for £4.5m in 2021 and sold him for a record £115m to Chelsea in the summer. In the same year they signed Marc Cucurella for £16m and Chelsea took him off Brighton’s hands for £62m.
Osman will spend the rest of the season with Nordsjaelland. They are currently fifth in the Superliga and are chasing a European finish in the table.
West Ham bid as high as £13m for Osman. They were unwilling to go any higher and Brighton have now got their man.
Arsenal and Tottenham were monitoring Osman but neither club made a move.
Brighton have done business with Nordsjaelland in the past. In 2022, they signed Simon Adingra for £6m. He’s made a big impact on the Brighton squad with eight G/A in 23 appearances.
