Alexis Mac Allister scored a 99th minute penalty to help Brighton secure a 1-0 win over Manchester United and keep their Champions League hopes alive.

Brighton ultimately dominated the second half and tallied 22 shots with 60% possession for the game, recording a greater xG (2.29) than the visitors (1.38).

After losing to United on penalties in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, the Seagulls got their revenge and have now won two Premier League games on the bounce.

A careless handball from Luke Shaw gave referee Andre Marriner no choice but to award a penalty after a VAR check with just seconds of the game remaining.

Mac Allister, who played a pivotal role in Argentina’s World Cup glory in December, stepped up to score a ninth goal of the season which takes his overall goal contribution tally to double figures.

According to Premier League betting sites, Roberto De Zerbi’s side remain a longshot to qualify for the Champions League but will almost definitely be playing in Europe next season.

Brighton have never played in Europe and have an impressive core, leading many to believe the south coast club would swim and survive on the big stage alongside football’s elite.

The threat of Mac Allister departing this summer continues to grow but with talent like Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma, Moses Caicedo and more, this is an impressive squad.

Brighton have two games in hand on Liverpool ahead in fifth, four points adrift the Merseyside outfit. The run-in doesn’t get any easier for the seasiders, who are yet to play Arsenal, Newcastle, Man City and Aston Villa.
