Brighton have announced their new signing Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht, with their own funny take on the Simpsons opening credits.

The 20-year-old has signed a deal with the Seagulls that will last until 2028, after a breakthrough campaign for Anderlecht last year.

Brighton announced their new number one with a funny take on the Simpsons opening credits, as Verbruggen could be seen writing ‘sign for Brighton’ on a whiteboard before being unveiled.

Last season Verbruggen began the season as a backup to first string goalkeeper Hendrik Van Crombrugge, but by the end of the season the Dutchman overtook the number one spot in an impressive year.

Verbruggen was even named as Anderlecht’s player of the season after an outstanding campaign that earned the star his first national call up for the Netherlands.

Anderlecht made it all the way to the quarter finals of the Conference League last season, but were knocked out by AZ Alkmaar on penalties after a tough second leg.

Next season Verbruggen will be making the upgrade to Europa League football, after Brighton qualified for the competition for the first time in their history.

Brighton head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: “I am very pleased to have signed Bart. He is used to playing a type of football similar to ours and he will have no problem fitting into our group.

“He has the potential to become a very important player for the club in the coming years.”

Verbruggen signing for Brighton has thrown current goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s future into doubt, as numerous clubs look to sign the Seagulls shot-stopper.
