Brentford vs Liverpool (1-4) Report: Mohamed Salah Returns With A Bang For Injury-Stricken Visitors
Liverpool extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table with an emphatic 4-1 victory on the road against Brentford – in a win highlighted by the return of Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian made his first appearance for the club since New Year’s Day and chipped in with a goal and an assist in the second half to put the hosts away.
Jurgen Klopp‘s men were hit with two injuries in the first half which forced changes, with Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota making way for Ryan Gravenberch and Salah.
The Reds took the lead in-between the substitutions thanks to Darwin Nunez and it was doubled ten minutes into the second half as Alexis Mac Allister bagged his second of the campaign.
Salah got in on the act with 20 minutes to play to make it 3-0 before Ivan Toney added yet another goal to his stats since returning from a gambling ban a month ago.
The three points were capped off by Cody Gakpo inside the final five minutes to seal the win and extend Liverpool‘s lead at the top of the league to five points over Manchester City and Arsenal on 52 each.
What Next For Brentford & Liverpool?
Liverpool will look ahead to a midweek clash with Luton Town at Anfield next Wednesday, but Klopp’s biggest focus is likely to be the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley Stadium next Sunday.
Brentford have now lost three of their last four in the league and the tough games continue with Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United to come in their next six.
