The Hunters’ Chase is the fifth race on Day 4 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. The Willie Mullins-trained Billaway is amongst the favourites at 7/1 to win on Day 4 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and win back-to-back at the Cheltenham Festival.

Billaway Hunters’ Chase Odds
The fifth race on Day 4 of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway at 4.10pm in the form of the Hunter’s Chase just after the Gold Cup. One of the standout horses in that race is the Willie Mullins-trained Billaway, who won this race 12 months ago. The Irish racing trainer will be hopeful of one of his star horses claiming victory here for the second time at the Cheltenham Festival.
Willie Mullins trains the reigning Hunter’s Chase champion and third betting favourite – Billaway.
The 11-year-old gelding currently sits at odds of around 7/1 with the best horse racing betting sites. Billaway has won four of his last five starts over fences, including last year’s Hunters’ Chase at Cheltenham as well as wins at Naas, Thurles and Punchestown respectively.
If he can replicate that kind of form here at Cheltenham on Friday, he will be extremely difficult to stop in the Hunters’ Chase once again.
The Irish gelding aims to win his second Cheltenham Festival race on his fourth appearance at the Festival. He came second in both 2020 and 2021 in this race, before winning it last year at the third time of asking. It comes as no surprise to see him amongst the betting favourites here.
He looks like he is a really strong horse and definitely has what it takes to win here again. Jockey Paddy Mullins will be hoping for a win here aboard Billaway here in the Hunters’ Chase.

In terms of Cheltenham odds, Billaway’s odds could well drift or shorten as the Hunters’ Chase approaches. Depending on the movement in the betting market and how heavy a favorite Vaucelet goes off as, he could potentially go off shorter than his current 7/1 price.
The David Christie-trained Vaucelet, Henry De Bromhead-trained Chris’s Dream and Chris Barber-trained Famous Clermont look to be Billaway’s biggest threats here. He will have to run his best race if he is to claim victory here for the second year running.
Mullins’ 11-year-old is certainly one of the most promising horses in the race, of that there is no doubt.
