With many Fantasy midfielders bridging the gap between the middle of the pitch and the forward line, there is potential for serious points. Ahead of the upcoming campaign, we are running you through the best FPL midfielders at each price point.

Best FPL Midfielders 2023/24

Budget FPL Midfielders

Bryan Mbeumo – Brentford (£6.5m)

Our budget midfield picks begin with Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, who will be forced to shoulder some of the responsibility in front of goal in the absence of Ivan Toney.

The Cameroon international did just that, and to great effect when Toney’s gambling ban came into effect – within that time frame, Mbeumo amassed 48 points, hitting five goals and registering three assists in a spectacular end-of-season flurry.

Not to mention a total of 17 goal involvements in 38 appearances, and at £6.5m he comes in at an intriguing price.

Whether he can hit that rich vein of form early on remains to be seen, but two bottom-half teams (Crystal Palace and Bournemouth) in their opening four games could present an opportunity for him to get on the scoresheet.

Eberechi Eze – Crystal Palace (£6.5m)

Eberechi Eze’s end-of-season form earned him a first England senior call-up, and the 25-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down following a spectacular solo effort against Sevilla in pre-season.

He was behind only to Mohamed Salah in terms of points scored by a midfielder in the final nine games, and looked a player rejuvenated under the returning Roy Hodgson. In that span, he found the net on six occasions while adding three assists.

Eze will need to step up after Palace’s talisman Wilfried Zaha departed in favour of a move to Turkey, and barring any serious injuries that have stunted his development in recent years, this could be his most productive season yet.

FPL New Signings: Familiar Faces & Premier League Novices Who Can Thrive At Their New Clubs

Mid-Range FPL Midfielders

Gabriel Martinelli – Arsenal (£8m)

We can’t quite believe Gabriel Martinelli’s price for the new season given his ever-increasing output.

The Brazilian is always such a problem for the opposition, and his growing maturity is reflected in his most productive season at Arsenal so far, finishing at the club’s joint-top scorer with 15 goals while also lending a hand with five assists.

The Gunners’ attacking impetus is relentless, and Martinelli embodies this frenzied, fast-paced attacking more so than anyone on their team.

Absolutely worth including at £8m given he only scored two less than Marcus Rashford, who is priced £1m higher.

Martin Odegaard – Arsenal (£8.5m)

Continuing with the Arsenal theme, we have also picked out Martin Odegaard, who again we think is slightly undervalued.

The Gunners captain was nigh-unplayable at points last term, dazzling and dancing between defenders while also showing his worth with an impressive goal and assist haul.

The Norwegian capped his season off alongside Martinelli as their joint-top scorer, adding eight assists and earning himself 212 FPL points. This put him fourth in the final standing for most points scored, behind only to Salah, Kane and Haaland.

Four home fixtures for Arsenal in the opening weeks – who dropped just 12 points at the Emirates last year and scored the second-most on home soil –  is also a driving factor for his inclusion.

Fantasy Premier League Gameweek 1 Picks: FPL Selections to Get the Season Up and Running

Premium Midfielders

Mohamed Salah – Liverpool (£12m)

Even in a stuttering Liverpool side, Mohamed Salah’s 19 Premier League goals is a commendable return, and one that is somewhat buried relative to his glittering success in recent years.

239 FPL points was just 33 behind Erling Haaland’s record-breaking season, and the Reds are expected to return in the upcoming campaign with far more bite than their fairly disastrous year last term.

Liverpool also host Bournemouth in gameweek two, a fixture they won 9-0 last season – a Salah captain week perhaps?

Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City (£10.5m)

Last and by no means certainly not least, we have picked Kevin De Bruyne as our other premium choice.

It is worthwhile noting that FPL players will be able to pick the Belgian up for £1.5m cheaper than his starting price in 2022/23, even in spite of his league-leading 18 assists.

Finishing in the top 10 for most points, there really isn’t much else to say about Manchester City’s mercurial playmaker other than he is near-enough guaranteed to hit double figures for goals and/or assists.
