Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva has opened up on how he felt upon the transfer of club and national team team-mate Joao Cancelo, as the full-back departed on loan to Bayern Munich.

Joao Cancelo completed his shock move away from the Etihad on deadline-day, signing for Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on loan. The Bavarians were also given option to buy the 28-year-old at the end of the season, with City pricing a permanent move at £62m.

The Portuguese full-back has been a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s machine, lifting the Premier League title twice, as well as the League Cup on two ocassions during his tenure in Manchester.

Reports suggested that Cancelo had fallen out with Guardiola, after falling out of favour in the Man City line-up.

After returning from the World Cup, Cancelo is said to have been frustrated by his lack of minutes, with youngster Rico Lewis and Nathan Ake being preferred in the starting line-up.

Bernardo Silva On Cancelo’s Move

Speaking after City’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Bernardo Silva revealed his feelings for Cancelo’s move to Bayern.

“I’m happy for him because it was the path that Joao chose to follow happily in his life,” he told ELEVEN Portugal.

“[But I’m] Sad for the team and for me that I won’t be able to count on him every day. He knows he’s a person I really like, but he made the best decision for him and I’m happy for him.”

Cancelo has already impressed critics in Germany. Playing in his favoured right-back position, he already has two assists, in just two starts under Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern are currently top of the Bundesliga, one point ahead of second place Union Berlin.

Bundesliga betting sites have the leaders priced at around 1/12 to retain their league title.
