Arrest, who was beaten as favourite in the 2023 Epsom Derby will get another crack at his conqueror Auguste Rodin in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby at the Curragh next month.

The son of the legendary Frankel was sent off as 4/1 favourite for English Classic on Saturday, with Frankie Dettori’s Group 1 double in the Coronation Cup and Oaks on Emily Upjohn and Soul Sister playing a huge part in that.

However, Arrest couldn’t live up to favouritism in the market, and finished 10th in the race. The Aidan O’Brien-trained Auguste Rodin bolted up to win the Derby in impressive fashion.

Well, Arrest could be in for revenge on July 2nd in the Irish Derby, however Auguste Rodin is a strong 4/6 favourite for the race as of now. Arrest is 12/1, but the John and Thady Gosden-trained colt is expected to enjoy this Irish track more.

John Gosden said the following after the Derby defeat: “He will be much better suited to a more conventional track like the Curragh”.

The Clarehaven Stables team didn’t get much rest, and were in France on Sunday for the Prix du Jockey Club. Their horse Epictetus finished fifth behind Ace Impact who won the contest.

Irish Derby Odds

  • King Of Steel @ 3/1
  • Sperewell @ 10/1
