Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in out-of-favour Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips as an alternative to West Ham’s Declan Rice.

A fresh report on Friday morning has indicated that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Kalvin Phillips, as they look set to miss out on West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

It is believed that Rice will end up with either Arsenal or Manchester City, and now Bayern see out-of-favour City midfielder Phillips as an alternative option.

The report comes from respected Bundesliga journalist Christian Falk, who shared the news on his Twitter account.

“FC Bayern have Kalvin Phillips (27) of Manchester City on their shortlist.” he tweeted.

“Philips is the alternative for Declan Rice.”

Phillips joined City from Leeds last summer on a six-year deal for a fee worth upwards of £45million with add-ons included.

His move hasn’t gone quite to plan however, as Phillips has played just 593 minutes under Pep Guardiola this term, starting in only two Premier League matches.

Despite this, he’s still been able to maintain his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and played twice in the World Cup in Qatar.

Upon his return to England in mid-December though, Guardiola commented that Phillips returned from the competition overweight.

Regardless, Phillips still had an involvement in the squad for the remainder of the campaign, and was able to pick up a Premier League medal, an FA Cup medal, and a Champions League medal as City secured an iconic treble.

He also recently scored his first goal for England, netting at Old Trafford as the Three Lions defeated North Macedonia 7-0 in European Championship qualifying.
