Liverpool legend and current Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emerged as a surprise candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur job after an impressive first season in the Bundesliga.
The Spaniard has done a good job in Germany since taking over at Leverkusen in October. His side are currently in the Europa League semi-finals with Roma awaiting them in just over a week.
With Spurs yet to find a permanent replacement after the departure of Antonio Conte in March, and Cristian Stellini who replaced him, Ryan Mason has found himself in charge until the end of the season.
Mason, who’s in his second spell in charge of the club has oversaw a 2-2 draw with Manchester United and a last-gasp defeat to Liverpool in his first two games back.

Alonso is said to have the upper hand over Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, who Spurs have also been interested in. Slot is on the verge of winning the Eredivise and has led his side to an eight-point lead at the top of the table.
According to reports Alonso is favoured more due to the calibre from his playing days, giving him an advantage over fellow contender Slot. Alonso’s Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last nine games with six wins and three draws.
