This morning’s Barcelona injury news is the latest dark cloud to loom over the club following a tough week in Europe and domestically, with top scorer Robert Lewandowski set to miss a crucial cup clash with Real Madrid.

Following an impeccable run of 11 straight victories, high-flying Barcelona were brought back down to Earth in midweek with yet another disappointing European exit against Manchester United, before having salt rubbed into their wounds by relegation-threatened Almeria on Sunday evening.

The Andalusians handed Xavi’s side only their second defeat in La Liga this season, and in doing so led them to miss out on a golden opportunity to go 10 points clear of bitter rivals Real Madrid, following their draw in El Derbi madrileno against neighbours Atletico.

The Blaugrana’s woes were further compounded this morning by fresh injury news concerning Robert Lewandowski, who suffered muscle discomfort in the defeat to Almeria and has since been ruled out for two weeks.

Lewandowski has been key to Barca’s success this season, carrying his rampant goalscoring exploits over from Germany to Spain since making the switch in the summer, netting 25 goals in 31 appearances.

To make matters worse, Xavi will be without a whole host of names for Thursday’s Copa Del Rey El Clasico, the most notable of which being Pedri, who was forced off against Manchester United in their Europa League first leg, while Ousmane Dembele remains sidelined with an injury and this tie will come too soon for the Frenchman.

Golden Boy recipient Gavi is also suspended for the next La Liga fixture against Valencia after picking up yet another yellow card, while the manager himself was cautioned in the second half of their recent defeat, meaning supporting cast Oscar Hernandez and Sergio Alegre will be present on the sidelines for the next league match.
