Pep Guardiola and Manchester City could be set to lose Kalvin Phillips this summer, with Aston Villa reportedly interested in making the midfielder their most expensive player ever.

Football Insider has reported that the Midlands club have a strong interest in bringing the 27-year-old to Villa Park this summer.

City are believed to be wanting upwards of £45 million in order to sell the Englishman in the summer.

Unai Emery is said to be looking for a new top-class signing who can run the midfield. It is believed that Phillips has been identified as the ideal candidate for the role.

Villa’s club record fee came when purchasing Emiliano Buendia for a reported £33 million, but a move for Phillips would likely smash that figure.

Phillips has struggled to get a good run of games at the Etihad, barely featuring under Guardiola.

He has made just two starts for the club this term. Phillips has missed the majority of the campaign with a shoulder injury suffered earlier in the season.

The Villans may be able to entice the Yorkshireman with the promise of European football.

After a sensational run of form, Emery’s side are well placed to secure European qualification.

Currently sixth in the Premier League table, Villa have just eight games to go until their European destiny could be achieved.

Morgan Sanson and Leander Dendoncker are said to be likely exits to facilitate Phillips’ move.
