Aston Villa are closing in on signing Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo on loan from Galatasaray and will have an option to buy him at the end of the season.

Villa Close In On Nicolo Zaniolo Deal

Unai Emery’s side have offered to pay a loan fee of £3m with an option to buy for around £19m for the attacking midfielder at the end of the season.

They are close to confirming the deal for the 24-year-old, who only joined the Turkish giants a few months ago. The former Roma man faced problems in his final few months in Italy, and became a Galatasaray player earlier this year in February.

He made 128 appearances in four-and-a-half years with the Serie A side, where he helped them win the inaugural Europa Conference League in 2022.

Villa have been forced to look for cover after Emi Buendia suffered a nasty ACL injury in training at the start of the month. The Argentine is not the only player in the squad to have picked up a significant knee injury. Tyrone Mings was stretchered off with a similar issue in their Premier League opener against Newcastle United at the weekend.

Zaniolo produced some good performances in his short stint in the Super Lig, and scored five goals in 11 appearances. However, he looks set to leave within the coming days.

Ahead of the Newcastle game last week, Unai Emery was speaking on the Zaniolo links: “Nicolo Zaniolo is not a striker. He is versatile. He can play as a No. 7 or No. 10 and he’s one of those we have on the list, with the qualities he has, to help us. He’s on our list and there are others.”
