Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Joao Cancelo from title rivals Manchester City this summer.

Cancelo has spent the second half of this season on loan with Bayern Munich, and 90min claim that the defender is unlikely to be reintegrated into the City first team ahead of next season.

His loan to the Bundesliga giants came as a shock to Premier League fans, as he was an ever-present figure under Pep Guardiola.

But following the World Cup and the emergence of Rico Lewis, his gametime was limited – so a loan became the preferred option.

Upon his arrival in Munich, Cancelo struggled to nail down a starting spot under Julian Nagelsmann. Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival however, he has become a regular in the starting line-up.

90min‘s report claims that the Bavarians are keen on tying the Portuguese international down on a permanent deal, but face competition from both Arsenal and Barcelona.

Mikel Arteta briefly worked with Cancelo during his time as Guardiola’s understudy, and is believed to be a big fan of the 28-year-old.

Cancelo joined City from Juventus back in 2019, winning two Premier League titles, two EFL Cups, and the Community Shield during his time in Manchester.

His exceptional performances under Guardiola also saw him named in the PFA Premier League team of the year in 2020/21 and 2021/22.

He is in good stead to add another piece of silverware to the cabinet this term, too.

Bayern currently sit top of the Bundesliga with just three games to go, which could see him win a fourth different European first division title – having previously won the Premier League, Serie A and Liga Portugal.
