What could be described as an all-time Premier League classic unfolded at the Emirates as Arsenal stunned Manchester United with two injury time goals to win 3-1 in the most dramatic fashion.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring after 27 minutes with an impressive finish, latching onto Christian Eriksen’s through ball to cut inside from the left-wing and curl home past Aaron Ramsdale.
The visitors’ lead didn’t last long as Martin Odegaard levelled the scores a minute later, controlling a pinpoint pass from Gabriel Martinelli from inside the area and side-footing the ball beyond Andre Onana.
Kai Havertz went down inside the area on the hour mark and referee Anthony Taylor pointed to the spot, but upon a VAR check it was made clear that the contact from Aaron Wan-Bissaka was minimal and the decision was overturned.
Rasmus Hojlund was introduced for his United debut after 67 minutes and his presence was immediately felt, engaging in physical battles with Gabriel and showing exactly the type of fight needed in such a game.
The Danish youngster combined with Casemiro to set up substitute Alejandro Garnacho for what looked to be the winner in the 89th minute, before VAR intervened once again to void the goal for offside on the smallest of margins.
In the depths of stoppage time, Declan Rice controlled Bukayo Saka’s corner and fired past Onana from close range via a deflection off Jonny Evans to grab his first Gunners goal and seal the three points in incredible style.
In the 100th minute, Fabio Vieira played Gabriel Jesus through on goal who sent Diogo Dalot flying with a cheeky fake and slotted home to pile the misery on United and put the finishing touches on an iconic Arsenal victory.
