Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins, as the Gunners have made contact with the England international’s agent.

Mikel Arteta’s side had been linked with a move for the Aston Villa star last summer, however the Villains managed to keep ahold of their leading centre-forward.

Recent reports suggest that, Edu, a member of the board at Arsenal, has been in contact with Ollie Watkins’ agent over the possibility of moving to the Emirates.

The Gunners have been extremely active in recent transfer windows, signing Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber for around £210m.

Arsenal have made a strong start to this Premier League campaign, after finishing second last season, as Mikel Arteta’s men are yet to lose a game – dropping points to Spurs and Fulham.

A move for the Aston Villa striker may occur sooner rather than later, due to Gabriel Jesus’ recent injury concerns, but is unlikely to happen in the upcoming January window.

During his time at Villa Park, Watkins has scored 47 goals and contributed with 15 assists in 125 games, however, his form at the start of this campaign has not lived up to expectation.

Following a season where he scored 16 goals in all competitions, many thought the 27-year-old would hit the ground running – however he has not.

Despite scoring a hat trick in Aston Villa’s Europa Conference League qualifier against Hibernian, Watkins has only managed one Premier League goal in six appearances.

These poor performances have not hindered his side too badly, winning four from the six fixtures, however Unai Emery’s men have suffered some thrashings.

Losing 5-1 to Newcastle in their Premier League opener and 3-0 away to Liverpool, Watkins could be keen on taking the next progressive step in his career.

The former Brentford striker has two-years remaining on his current deal, which means any move in the next two windows could cost the Gunners up to £50m.
