The remainder of Arsenal’s transfer business will more than likely rely on their ability to offload members of the squad, but chief among their targets is Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have already made significant inroads in this hugely important window, bolstering the defence, midfield and attack with three new signings thus far.

Fresh rumours linking them with a concrete approach for Brentford’s David Raya suggests they are also eager to shore up their goalkeeper depth.

That would leave a winger and/or striker as the only profile yet to be snapped up by the Gunners this summer, although they have been strongly linked with the likes of Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus and Ferran Torres in recent weeks.

However, rumblings of a move that will have Arsenal fans wagging their tongues have begun to surface over the weekend, with Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia emerging as an ambitious target.

The Georgian captured the hearts of Naples last year as he played a starring role in their first Scudetto since 1990. His 12 goals and 13 assists in Serie A were enough to earn him the league’s player of the year award.

He is expected to remain in southern Italy having only made his debut at the beginning of last season, but the Gunners are reportedly counting on a positive relationship with Napoli’s new sporting director Mauro Meluso.

Meluso played an instrumental role in recommending Jakub Kiwior to Arsenal in January. It is hoped the pre-existing relationship may aid them in their pursuit of Kvaratskhelia, who earned his plaudits last year as one of the best wide players in world football.

A significant bid would need to be lodged in order for the Italian champions to consider negotiating, but it is though the club are slightly more open to the idea now that top scorer Victor Osimhen has committed his future.
