Arsenal have secured their second signing of the day and their third of this transfer window, as the Gunners have agreed a deal worth €45m for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.

Having already announced a deal with West Ham for Declan Rice today, Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Gunners have also managed to wager a deal with Ajax for the highly rated defender Jurrien Timber.

Arsenal have been chasing the versatile defender since the window opened and it seems they have got their man after fighting off competition from Manchester United.

Timber played 34 matches in the Eredivisie last season and became an essential part of Ajax’s side despite their disappointing year.

Arsenal have been looking for new cover at the back this summer, after William Saliba picked up an injury last season that kept the 22-year-old out for the last month of the season.

Timber can play both right back and centre back so the adaptable defender is a perfect fit for Mikel Arteta who struggled with injuries in both positions last season.

The signing of Timber will take Arsenal’s total spending this summer to over £200m, as the Gunners prepare for a long awaited return to the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta and Edu have worked wonders in this window, as they have brought in Kai Havertz from Chelsea as well as Timber and Rice this week.

The Gunners also secured a new long-term contract for academy graduate Reiss Nelson today and after plenty of speculation about the young winger’s future, Arsenal will be glad to keep their 23-year-old star.
