Although it appears the club’s business is all but over for the summer, the latest Tottenham transfer news may provide a sneak peek into their plans for January after Brentford set a price for Ivan Toney.

Although Ivan Toney is currently serving an eight month ban for 232 breaches of the FA’s gambling rules, the Brentford striker has not shied away from the limelight.

In a revealing interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Toney said: “Everybody wants to play at the top of the tree, not that Brentford aren’t there, but I feel like going to a big club and fighting for trophies is something everyone wants to do.

“The next club I go to, if I was to move, would be the right club. “I’ve been a Liverpool fan my whole life, but from young I’ve liked Arsenal.”

It would appear links to north London are the strongest, with Arsenal having long been touted with a move for the Bees striker. After also going on to reveal his admiration for Liverpool and Arsenal’s passionate fanbases, it seems his preference lies with his self-professed boyhood clubs.

Jurgen Klopp’s side find themselves without a true, recognised number nine this season, but whether their budget allows for an £80m investment in January is unclear after dropping a significant sum bolstering the midfield this summer.

Elsewhere, The Athletic report that Tottenham have already ‘internally discussed’ the possibility of a move for Toney in the winter, having lost Harry Kane to Bayern Munich last month.

The departure of a player who scored 30 goals last season has left Tottenham fans scratching their head as to who can take up the mantle, particularly after back-up forward Richarlison managed just one goal in the Premier League.

Step forward Ivan Toney, who was prolific for Brentford having netted on 20 occasions.

It is also worth noting the England striker will sign with a new agency – Stellar – who have helped facilitate big money transfers for Gareth Bale and Jack Grealish in the past.

Whether this is an indication that Tony is prepared to leave remains to be seen, but everything points to an exit in January.
