Antonio Conte’s chances of being sacked have increased following his sides 1-0 defeat to Wolves, with odds being slashed to 8/1, per UK betting sites.
Spurs travelled to Wolverhampton looking for a much-needed victory following their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in the FA Cup. However, another lacklustre performance saw the side from north London lose 1-0 to Julen Lopetegui’s Wolves.
Adama Traore’s late strike gave the home side all three points and added further pressure on the Spurs boss. Tottenham sit fourth in the table, four points ahead of a Newcastle side that suffered a 2-0 loss to Man City earlier today, but the Magpies have two games in hand.
Their chance on the European stage shows a similar amount of hope, as they are currently 1-0 down to AC Milan in their two-legged round of 16 tie. Being knocked-out of the Champions League would leave just the Premier League to fight for, with top four being their aim.
Can Conte avoid the sack?
The Italian boasts a very respectable domestic record for the clubs he’s previously managed, winning the Premier League and FA Cup with Chelsea. However, his time at Spurs has not followed suit, as he is yet to win a trophy with his side and is looking unlikely to do so this year.
Another thing that may be on his mind is the situation with his star-man, Harry Kane. The striker almost left the club during the summer, as he tried to force a move to Premier League champions Man City. Spurs’ recent form could not bode well as failure to qualify for the Champions League could see the clubs top scorer depart.
