With Anthony Martial out of action for ten weeks following groin surgery, the enigmatic striker may have played his last game for Manchester United, but where next for the French international?

Manchester United fans may have seen Anthony Martial in a United shirt for the last time following the announcement that the French striker is set to be out of action for 10 weeks following groin surgery.

The Red Devils released a statement on Wednesday, saying: “Anthony Martial has completed successful surgery to address a groin complaint and will be out of action for about 10 weeks as he rehabilitates.

“We wish Anthony a speedy recovery and look forward to his return.”

Martial is due to return from injury in April, however, with Premier League fixtures ending in May and Manchester United out of all European competitions, time is running out for the striker to make a comeback.

Martial’s contract comes to an end in the summer and with Manchester United unlikely to trigger a one-year contract extension, rumours have begun to swirl regarding the former Monaco man’s future.

Where Next For Martial?

Martial has not featured for Manchester United since their 3-0 home demolition at the hands of Bournemouth on December 9.

The Frenchman was substituted after 56 minutes in that game, with a section of home fans cheering his removal.

Amid struggles with form and fitness throughout his Manchester United career, Premier League offers for Martial have dried up, leaving him destined for a move abroad.

Saudi Arabian and Turkish clubs have built a ‘We buy any player’ reputation in recent times and therefore, unsurprisingly, come in as strong favourites for Martial’s signature at 5/2 and 4/1 respectively.

Elsewhere, Inter Milan have become adept at reviving out-of-kilter Premier League stars and may look to replicate the success of Romelu Lukaku, who made the same move from Manchester to Milan in 2019, with Martial.

Martial could also choose to make a return to his native France. The striker was born in the suburbs of Paris and cut his teeth as a footballer in Lyon’s academy, so a return to either club is certainly on the cards.

Before Saudi Arabia, the MLS was the obvious destination for players looking for a final payday before retirement, and so, any MLS club are priced at 9/1.

Making up the rest of the list are a host of top European clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Roma, AC Milan and former club Monaco, who may all choose to take a risk on the striker.
