According to reports, Manchester United striker Anthony Martial could return to Ligue 1 this summer, despite the Red Devils’ striker concerns.

The 2022-23 campaign saw excitement and success return to the red side of Manchester after years of concern, as the Red Devils won silverware for the first time in seven years.

Manager, Erik ten Hag, brought European football back to Old Trafford as his side finished third in the Premier League.

Securing Champions League football was vital for the club’s ambition in the coming transfer window, as a host of Europe’s elite players have been linked with a move to Manchester.

Harry Kane had been linked with a move to Old Trafford, as United’s search for a striker continues. However, reports suggest that the England international will not be heading to Manchester this summer and Real Madrid are now favourites.

The need to sign a striker may have increased, as Anthony Martial, has been linked with a potential return to Ligue 1 and would leave the Red Devils with no designated centre-forward.

The former Monaco forward has made 298 appearances for Manchester United, after signing for £50m in 2015 and has contributed to 141 goals so far.

After stunning the Old Trafford faithful with a superb solo effort against Liverpool on debut, Martial was expected to achieve great things in Manchester.

However, after a host of injuries the striker failed to meet these lofty standards and in January 2022, he signed for Sevilla on loan.

During his time in Spain the Frenchman failed to re-ignite his career and contributed with two goals – meaning the La Liga side were unwilling to make the switch permanent.

The 27-year-old is under contract until 2025 and given United’s current striker situation, it is unlikely he will depart until a new marksman is added to ten Hag’s squad.
