The Anthony Joshua vs Dillian Whyte rematch is off after Whyte returned “adverse analytical finding” in a random anti-doping drugs test. Matchroom released a statement on Saturday, which can be seen below.

Anthony Joshua Vs Dillian Whyte Rematch Cancelled

A statement from Matchroom Boxing on Saturday (August 5th) read: “Today, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions and the British Boxing Board of Control that Dillian Whyte had returned adverse analytical findings as part of a random anti-doping protocol.

“In light of this news, the fight will be cancelled, and a full investigation will be conducted. Further information on the event will follow.”

Only the main event has been cancelled so far, and it is unknown at this point whether Joshua will face a different opponent on the same night.

The two British heavyweights were due to reignite their long-standing rivalry on August 12th at the O2 Arena in London, but after today’s news it will not be happening anytime soon.

Joshua and Whyte fought at the O2 in December 2015, with the former stopping the latter in the seventh round. The British and Commonwealth titles were on the line that night.

Back in April, Joshua won his first fight in over two years as he beat Jermaine Franklin, giving him some much needed confidence going into the Whyte rematch.
