The 2023 Saudi Cup takes centre stage on the international horse racing scene this Saturday. 13 runners will look to win the monster $10m first prize, so let’s give you our best Saudi Cup tip on the world’s richest race.
Saudi Cup Tip: Taiba Can Land The $10 First Prize.
It’s hard to get away from the chance of the Bob Baffert-trained Taiba @ 15/8 with Virgin Bet.
This 4 year-old seems to have a lot going for him, starting with a top draw in 2.
He’ll also have plenty of experience in the saddle with US jockey Mike E Smith riding and comes here off the back of a win.
That last success came in the RUNHAPPY Malibu Stakes, at Santa Anita where he ran out an impressive 4 1/4 length winner (watch below).
Prior to that recent run, Taiba was also third in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland, behind the classy Flightline. He won’t face anything as good here and with all three past Saudi Cup winners aged 4, he also ticks this stat.
TAIBA is a big player and is taken to give trainer Bob Baffert his first Saudi Cup win and scoop the huge $10m top prize.
Frankie Dettori Can Go Close with Country Grammer
COUNTRY GRAMMER is owned by the same connections as Taiba – Zedan Racing Stables Inc – and they could easily have a 1-2 here.
They’ve managed to snap-up the services of Frankie Dettori to ride, but the pocket Italian is no stranger to this horse.
He’s ridden him twice and won on him both times!
One of those Frankie wins with Country Grammer came in the 2022 Dubai World Cup, while the horse was also runner-up in this race last year.
He’ll also head here off the back of a win, after taking the San Antonio Stakes at Santa Anita on Boxing Day. Yes, draw 10 isn’t ideal, but with some Dettori magic this consistent performer won’t be far away.
The top UK horse racing betting sites have Country Grammer in as the second favourite @ 4/1.
Jun Light Bolt an Interesting Ride For Ryan Moore
Our final 2023 Saudi Cup tip is the Ryan Moore-ridden JUN LIGHT BOLT – one of six runners from Japan in the race.
Last seen winning the Grade One Champions Cup in his homeland – beating another runner Crown Pride. This 6 year-old has been handed a fair draw (6) and has won his last three.
Moore will be a big plus in the saddle has been freshened up with almost 3 months off.
Best Of The Rest in Saudi Cup
Last year’s shock winner Emblem Road is back for more and seems to love the Riyadh track.
Panthalassa and Cafe Pharoah are two other interesting Japanese runners that have the form to go well too.
While if you think the 4 year-old stat will continue then away from Taiba – Scotland Yard, Geoglyph and Crown Pride standout.
