Ruby Walsh Cheltenham Tip For 2023 Mares’ Hurdle
ECHOES IN RAIN @ 13/2 with bet365
The 2023 Mares’ Hurdle is setting up to be one of the best races on the opening day of the Cheltenham Festival – with the current Champion Hurdle Honeysuckle being re-routed to the Tuesday race, plus throw in the 2022 winner of the Mares’ Hurdle Marie’s Rock and also Love Envoi and Brandy Love, then it’s certainly a race full of ‘girl power’!
However, top ex-jockey Ruby Walsh feels another horse – ECHOES IN RAIN – might benefit from the way the race is likely to be run. With Walsh expecting a good gallop in the race, he feels this will help Echoes In Rain settle better in the race – being a horse that likes to come from off the pace.
She was also an impressive winner at Naas at the end of January, when taking the Limestone Lad Hurdle by 10 lengths, so will head into the race in winning form. Yes, she was 6 1/2 lengths behind Marie’s Rock in this race last year but got slightly hampered that day and also didn’t settle as well as she could have.
The stronger pace this year will help on that score and with a better class of opposition in the race there is a stronger chance she won’t encounter less-class horses falling back through the field to give her any traffic issues. The final icing on the cake is that she’s trained by Willie Mullins, who has won this race a remarkable 9 times since the race was first run in 2008.
