Last season there was a record-breaking 15 managerial departures in the Premier League, with a further three changes made so far this summer. So, ahead of the new season, check out who the bookies believe could be in trouble early on with the latest first Premier League manager to leave odds.

Who Will Be The First Premier League Manager To Leave?

Only nine of the managers that were in charge at the start of last season remain in the dugout this time around.

Bournemouth, much to the surprise of many decided a switch was needed ahead of this campaign and sacked Gary O’Neil last month replacing him with Spaniard Adoni Iraola.

Meanwhile Chelsea brought in former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and Spurs themselves brought in a new manager too with Ange Postecoglou making the switch from Celtic.

There was also doubts about Roy Hodgson‘s future at Crystal Palace, however the Eagles confirmed earlier this month that the veteran will remain in charge for the upcoming season.

Also, for the promoted clubs, we have Vincent Kompany at Burnley, Paul Heckingbottom at Sheffield United and Rob Edwards at Luton Town.

Scott Parker was last year’s first Premier League manager to leave after he was given the boot by Bournemouth following a 9-0 defeat to Liverpool. It took just four games for Parker to lose his job.

Fast-forward a year and it is Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui who is the early favourite to be sacked first according to UK Betting sites. Wolves were in the relegation zone when Lopetegui was appointed, and in the end he led the club to safety finishing in 13th.

However, the West Midlanders have a tricky start to the campaign, and play Manchester United, Brighton, Liverpool and Manchester City all in their opening seven games.

Premier League 2023/24: First Manager To Get Sacked - Julen Lopetegui

Julen Lopetegui and Wolves are set to operate within the straightjacket of Financial Fair Play rules this season, which is bound to leave their Spanish coach frustrated. In order to balance the books, the West Midlands outfit have already sold star midfielder Ruben Neves to the highest bidder and Republic of Ireland defender Nathan Collins to Brentford at the time of writing.

Not only that, but Wolves have released musclebound winger Adama Traore and veteran duo Diego Costa and Joao Moutinho. Conor Coady has also left Molineux permanently following an unsuccessful loan spell with Everton by joining relegated Leicester City.

Lopetegui is an ambitious coach and it’s hard to see how his current employers can really match what he wants to achieve on a shoestring budget. Wanderers scored just 31 goals in the Premier League last term, the lowest of any in the division.

Addressing that whilst the purse-strings tighten in the Molineux boardroom is going to be a challenge. There’s a real danger that Wolves may get lost in the shuffle and no guarantee of replicating last season’s ultimately comfortable mid-table finish, especially with such a tough run of fixtures to start the new campaign.

Although Lopetegui helped Wanderers belie the infamous stat of being bottom at Christmas and not staying up, chances are he won’t be in the job if the club experiences similar struggles this season. He’ll either quit in a fit of pique over the strictures or be moved on by owners that may be forced into remodelling their club like Leicester.
