Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Chelsea meet at Anfield on Wednesday night as the Reds look to maintain their lead at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, having played a game more than the champions.

Chelsea are enjoying a good run of form currently; having lost just once in their last seven games across all competitions.

Ahead of the clash, we take a closer look at Liverpool and Chelsea’s record signings. We will also compare the full squad values of both sides.

Liverpool Record Signing

You only have to go back to the summer of 2022 to find out who Liverpool’s record signing is. The centre-forward joined the club with a number of expectations already laid in place for him.

He is of the same nationality as former star Luis Suarez, and signed for the Merseysiders in the same transfer window as Erling Haaland.

Furthermore, he was brought in to replace the brilliant Sadio Mane. The 24-year-old hasn’t quite hit the lofty heights of the Senegalese forward yet but he has had a strong campaign so far.

We are of course referring to Darwin Nunez. The Reds forked out a huge £85.3m for the South American just over 18 months ago from Benfica.

To date, Nunez has featured in 75 games across all competitions; scoring 26 goals and providing 14 assists. In 2023/24, he has hit 11 goals and recorded 10 assists.

Chelsea Record Signing

12 months ago, Chelsea’s record signing joined the club for a huge transfer fee of £106.8m. The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner also left Benfica to move to the Premier League.

The Argentine star arrived at Stamford Bridge with a huge reputation; his performances in November and December 2022 saw his stock skyrocket.

However, the defensive midfielder has had an indifferent start to life in England’s elite. His British record transfer fee has perhaps had an effect on his performances on the pitch.

Of course, we are referring to Enzo Fernandez. The 23-year-old has only shown glimmers of his talents so far but he will surely become more consistent in time.

If the Blues are to get a positive result against Liverpool at Anfield, Fernandez will need to be at his very best to stop the Premier League leaders.

Liverpool Vs Chelsea Full Squad Values

Unsurprisingly, Liverpool and Chelsea have two of the most valuable squads in the Premier League. Both teams have spent very lavishly across recent seasons.

According to transfermarkt.com, the Reds full squad value is listed at £745m. The most valuable players in Jurgen Klopp‘s squad are Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz (both £63.8m).

Both players are expected to start at Anfield on Wednesday – the attacking duo have notched 11 goals and registered six assists between them in all competitions this season.

The Blues full squad value is listed at £834.6m, according to transfermarket.com. The most valuable player in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad is defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo, who is priced at £76.6m.

The Ecuadorian international only moved to West London in the summer of 2023, joining from Brighton & Hove Albion for £100m.

Liverpool Vs Chelsea H2H

Wednesday’s clash between Liverpool and Chelsea will be a dress rehearsal for the 2024 League Cup final at Wembley in February.

However, what is the overall Liverpool vs Chelsea head-to-head record in all competitions? As it stands, the Reds hold the upper hand with 84 wins from a total of 195 games.

There have been 46 draws between the sides with the Blues boasting 65 wins. Incredibly, the last seven meetings have all ended in stalemate.

On the opening game of the 2023/24 Premier League season between the two, the game ended in a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. Luis Diaz and Axel Disasi were the scorers.

Ahead of the clash, the best UK betting sites price Liverpool as the 6/10 match favourites. The draw can be backed at 7/2 with Chelsea available at 9/2.
