The Haydock going report, ahead of their Peter Marsh Chase Day fixture on Saturday 20th January, will be Googled a lot in the build-up to the weekend with a spell of cold weather hitting the UK at the moment.
Haydock Going Currently Described as ‘FROZEN’ Ahead Of Peter Marsh Chase Day On ITV Racing
This Saturday’s Peter Marsh Chase Day at Haydock races was called off in 2023 with a frozen track and with the course currently being described as ‘frozen’ this week, then race officials will be hoping things warm up by the weekend.
A cold spell of frozen weather is sweeping the UK this week and the world of horse racing has already lost meetings in midweek as a result.
Ascot are also on high alert ahead of their Saturday Clarence House Chase Day card. However, things are looking a bit worse at Haydock with going already described as frozen – was Soft, good-to-soft in places.
Haydock Saturday Card Under Serious Threat
With the ground already frozen, track officials are already saying they’ve got their backs to the wall to get Saturday’s meeting on. The course is also under about an inch of snow on Wednesday and temperatures remain in minus figures.
Their only hope is that it’s due to get slightly warmer on Friday and Saturday (race day), but the concern is if this is enough time for a thaw.
There is now a planned inspection at Haydock at 8am on Friday (19th Jan)
Clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwight told the Racing Post – “We’re backs to the wall at the moment, we’re just going to have to see what happens. We’ve two very cold nights coming up but there is a bit of a thaw coming at the weekend. I suspect it’ll be too late.”
The Peter Marsh Chase (3:15pm), which is due to be one of three LIVE ITV races from the Lancashire track on Saturday, will hopefully feature the winner of the last two runnings of the race – Royal Pagaille.
Royale Pagaille is already the betting favourite for the race with the best UK horse racing betting sites. So his trainer Venetia Williams and owner Rich Ricci will be keeping everything crossed.
