Andy Newton’s LAY OF THE DAY: 6:30 Newcastle – BILLYJOH
With Chepstow and Plumpton off we head to the AW today with Newcastle and Wolverhampton keeping the racing show on the road as a cold weather spell sweeps the country.
The horse we are taking on today is the Mick Appleby runner BILLYJOH, who goes later today at Newcastle.
Yes, this 4 year-old won at Southwell last time out in December, but only scrapped home by a neck that day and is up another 4lbs here.
Today’s Newcastle track will also be a different test to Southwell, plus this is also a hike in grade now in into a class 4 (from 5).
He’s unexposed and could well improve again, plus is expected to be favourite again today so little downside in taking him on.
However, the final icing on the cake is the form of the Appleby yard is average at the moment with only 4 winners from their last 47 sent to post.
We’ve more horse racing free tips here – including our daily NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 selections.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for ÂŁ10.
If the horse loses, you will win ÂŁ10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out ÂŁ20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for ÂŁ10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be ÂŁ18. Or if the horse loses you will win ÂŁ10 (less any commission).
