Andy Newton’s LAY OF THE DAY: 2.00 Lingfield – ASPIRE TO GLORY
This Alice Haynes runner – ASPIRE TO GLORY – broke his duck at Kempton last month on his eighth career run.
He got the job done by 1/2 a length that day and after some poor runs before his trainer could offer no reason for the improvement, but it might have been the first-time hood, which is on again today.
However, there are a few reasons to suggest he’s no value to follow up. Firstly, the change of track as Lingfield is a lot different to Kempton. It’s also the horse’s first run at the Surrey venue.
He’s also up 2lbs for that win but more importantly is carrying a massive 14lb more in actual racing weigh in as he’s dropped back to a 0-55 (from 0-60).
Yes, Tommie Jakes, who rode last time, takes off 7lbs again but he did the last day too.
The final negative are the track stats of the Haynes yard at Lingfield – they are just 3-from-39 with their 3 year-olds at the course. While we’ll also have stables running for us like Rod Milman and Andrew Balding, who both boast a solid 26% strike-rate with this 3 year-olds here.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for ÂŁ10.
If the horse loses, you will win ÂŁ10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out ÂŁ20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for ÂŁ10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be ÂŁ18. Or if the horse loses you will win ÂŁ10 (less any commission).
