It’s a West London derby this weekend, with Chelsea vs Fulham in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
In one of the closest geographical derbies in football, Marco Silva’s Fulham side makes the short, two-mile trip to neighbours Chelsea for a 12:30 kick-off.
The two sides are both locked in a mid-table battle in the Premier League this season. Fulham are 13th in the table, with 24 points from 20 games.
Chelsea meanwhile have performed well below their own lofty ambitions. Mauricio Pochettino’s men are three places above Fulham, with 28 points.
But there will be more than just points at stake when these two teams face off. Bragging right over your local rivals can help soften the blow of a disappointing campaign, or lift a team ready for the all-important latter half of the season.
But despite the bitter rivalry, there are a good number of players who have actually featured for both Chelsea and Fulham over the years.
Ahead of this weekend’s clash, we’ve taken a look at the biggest names to play for both clubs during their careers.
Players Who’ve Played For Chelsea And Fulham
Willian
Brazilian veteran Willian spent seven successful years with Chelsea, winning two Premier League titles. After a disappointing year with Arsenal, he returned home for a season in Brazil with Corinthians in 2021.
Still going strong at 35, he’s now back in the England and has played 50 times for Fulham. With three London clubs already ticked off, we feel it’s only right he has a few games for Tottenham, Brentford and West Ham before he hangs up his boots.
Mark Schwarzer
With the Premier League’s second-most appearances as a goalkeeper, Mark Schwarzer was a stalwart of English football for most of his career.
The Australian spent time at Bradford and Middlesbrough before joining Fulham in 2008. After five seasons at Craven Cottage, he moved to Chelsea in 2015 before retiring at Leicester City a week later.
In total, Schwarzer made 514 Premier League appearances, 191 of which were for Fulham, with seven at Chelsea.
Damien Duff
The only man to have played more than 100 times for both Chelsea and Fulham, Damien Duff was a regular for both.
With 148 matches for Fulham following 107 for Chelsea, the Irishman had good a good career in West London.
Now back in Ireland, Duff is the manager of Shelbourne FC in the League of Ireland.
Eiður Guðjohnsen
Although known mostly for his six years at Chelsea, Eiður Guðjohnsen spent one season at Fulham in 2010. The Icelandic forward also spent time at Barcelona in La Liga, as well as a season with Ligue 1 club Monaco.
The 45-year-old was a Champions League winner in 2009 while at the Nou Camp.
Scott Parker
Scott Parker made 124 league appearances for Fulham from 2013-2016. But he had previously been at Chelsea for two seasons from 2003-2005.
The Charlton Athletic youth product was most recently the manager of Belgian side Club Brugge.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Now at AC Milan in the Italian Serie A, England international Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also played for both Chelsea and Fulham. The 27-year-old went on loan from Chelsea to Fulham in 2020/21, playing 20 Premier League matches.
A product of Chelsea’s Cobham academy, Loftus-Cheek left his boyhood club in the summer and has so far made 20 appearances for Milan.
Wayne Bridge
Former England fullback Wayne Bridge actually went from Chelsea to Fulham, then back to Chelsea. He is better known for his time at Stamford Bridge, with 142 total appearances.
That’s still not as many as he had at Southampton though, where he played 172 times before joining Chelsea in 2003.
An unsuccessful switch to Craven Cottage saw him play just 12 games for Fulham, returning to Chelsea in 2006.
Andre Schurrle
Despite winning the World Cup with Germany in 2014, Andre Schurrle always struggled in England. The versatile forward scored 14 times in 65 Chelsea appearances from 2013-2015, before returning to Germany with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
He joined Fulham in 2018, but playing just 25 times. Schurrle has since retired after a spell with Spartak Moscow in Russia.
