Andy Newton’s LAY OF THE DAY: 5:30 Kempton – MARCHETTI
The Jimmy Fox-trained MARCHETTI was a tidy winner over course and distance three weeks ago and on that form will be popular with punters to follow up on Wednesday at Kempton.
However, that win was this 7 year-old’s very first career success from 27 runs so let’s not get carried away.
Yes, a wind op at the end of 2023 might have done the trick but there’s no getting away from the fact she’s still going to be the oldest runner in this Classified Stakes too and is just 1-from-27.
That first win last time was also only her second run since February 2023 and her first for three months, so the dreaded ‘bounce factor’ is also in-play.
The final negative is the strike-rate of the Fox yard at Kempton, with just a 3% return and two winners (one being Marchetti) from their last 62 runners.
While jockey Georgia Dobie’s record at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue isn’t much better either. The 3lb claimer has ridden just four winners from her last 91 at the track.
Therefore, despite breaking her duck last time over course and distance Marchetti still have an inconsistent profile with only one win from 27 and will have to prove that last success and the recent wind op have improved her.
But overall, there still seems to be enough to take her on at the prices – considering she was sent off at 25/1 the last day.

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
