GREY SKIES (system – Donald McCain, fitness angle)
Donald McCain’s horses have been needing their initial outings this season and, after a slow start to the campaign, the yard is picking up pace. Since the beginning of December, backing his runners who had raced at least once in the past three months would have found 14 winners from 69 bets for a profit of £102.92 to a £1 level stake at SP. GREY SKIES, a three-length fourth of eight at Carlisle on last month’s return to action, tends to come good after the New Year and looks worth an interest in this 2m3f handicap chase.

YELLOW JACKET (system – Blue Bresil, young chasers)
Younger progeny of the sire Blue Bresil have a solid record over fences, with those aged seven or less landing 36 of their 153 starts (23.5%) in Britain/Ireland for a profit of £59.77 to the usual £1 stake. YELLOW JACKET was beaten by 15 lengths into second place on his reappearance at Bangor last month but the Donald McCain horses have been improving for a run this term and the seven-year-old can go one better.
SOUTHWELL 7.30
STORYMAKER (system – George Boughey, fitness angle)
George Boughey’s inmates take their racing well and those who had run three or more times in the past month have a 31 from 90 record (34.4% strike-rate) for a profit of £23.33 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 21.38, A/E = 1.45). STORYMAKER completed a 21-day hat-trick when landing a 7f fillies’ handicap here on Saturday and can go in again with the step back up in trip no problem.
