Andy Newton’s LAY OF THE DAY: 2:15 Plumpton – ELDORADO ALLEN
The Joe Tizzard runner ELDORADO ALLEN will be popular in the most valuable race on the Plumpton card (Stayers Handicap Hurdle) – with a tasty ÂŁ39k on the table.
This 10 year-old is back over hurdles and on a 11lb lower mark than his chase rating and jockey Freddie Gingell takes off another 5lbs. Therefore, on paper there is certainly a lot to like.
However, the worry is that Eldorado Allen is on a run of eleven races without a win – with his last success coming back in Feb 2022 in the Denman Chase at Newbury. While, despite running some top races in defeat – including a 4th in the Coral Gold Cup last time – it’s still a concern of this lack of wins.
Plus, even though he’s clearly racing on a very attractive mark, he’s also still got a big racing weight of 11-12 to lump round (less Gingell’s claim) and that will be tough in soft ground and over 3m 1f.
Oh, and talking of the trip, this is the final negative.
Eldorado Allen is yet to win over 3m or further, with his form figures over a distance of 3m (or more) reading 7-2-2-4-7-5-3-4 – which suggests that, even though he’s been placed in better races, there are still questions to answer over this yardage.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1), then you could lay this horse for ÂŁ10.
If the horse loses, you will win ÂŁ10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out ÂŁ20 (just like a bookmaker would).
See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for ÂŁ10.
You can see the liability if the horse wins would be ÂŁ18. Or if the horse loses you will win ÂŁ10 (less any commission).
