ITV Racing Tips at Newcastle On Saturday 6th January 2024
It’s the first horse racing Saturday of 2024 and we get going with LIVE ITV4 action at Newcastle as the channel have switched their attention to the northern track after Sandown was called off on Friday.
There are four races to take in on the channel that include two Handicap Chases that are sure to be competitive affairs with the best UK horse racing betting sites.
Let’s take a look at the LIVE ITV4 Newcastle races in more detail, while there is also LIVE ITV racing this Saturday at Wincanton if they pass their 8am morning inspection.
Newcastle ITV Racing Tips On Saturday 6th January 2024
1:40 Newcastle – QuinnBet Acca Bonus Novices’ Hurdle (Novices’ Championship Hurdle Series Qualifier) (GBB Race) Cl4 (4yo+) 2m1f ITV4
The Lucinda Russell-trained TWO AULD PALS was a fair flat performer rated 74 and made a promising debut over hurdles at Bangor last month when second. He took a bit of a hold that day but still did well to finish runner-up from 10 runners and is sure to have learned a lot from that.
Connections look to have found a good opportunity for him to get off the mark over the sticks and the Russell camp have their horses in fine fettle at the moment with a 21% strike rate in the last 14 days. Forged Well and Konfusion can do best of the rest.

On all known form HANDSTANDS should be winning this doing exactly that – handstands. This 5 year-old looks a nice sort in the making for the Ben Pauling yard after winning at Hereford last month on his hurdles debut by 6 1/2 lengths. The former Pointer travelled powerfully that day and jumped well to get the job done with a lot more in-hand than the final official margin.
He can take this on the way to better things with the main race here for the places. Hubbel Bubbel, Taras Halls, Boolamore Classic and Rock Steady Eddie are all contenders for a minor podium finish.

2:50 Newcastle – QuinnBet Acca Bonus Handicap Chase (Go North Monet’s Garden Series Qualifier) Cl5 (5yo+ 0-100) 2m4f ITV4
Empty Nest and Goodoldbill will be popular picks here, but with the Micky Hammond yard having won this race for the last two years a chance is taken on their pair in the race – CARRIGEEN CASTLE and GREAT RAFFLES at fair prices.
The former will have the services of champion jockey Brian Hughes and despite two poor runs this season is down another 4lbs this time. This former Pointer probably wasn’t suited by the tight Hexham track last time either and will be more at home on the galloping Newcastle venue.
Great Raffles was also well back in his last race, when last of four here at Newcastle, but that came off a 244-day break. Will strip fitter here and is also 3lbs lower. Also stays further than this 2m4f trip, so jockey Emma Smith-Chaston, who claims 3lbs, is sure to make full use of that.

3:25 Newcastle – quinnbet.com Handicap Hurdle Cl5 (4yo+ 0-105) 2m4½f ITV4
Desperate stuff to end the LIVE ITV racing tips from Newcastle but something has to win. Yealand is likely to be popular having shown up fairly well last time at Bangor, but also didn’t jump that well and is also up in trip here. Tommy Johnson has a similar profile, but the horse that has at least gone closest to winning – ROBERT D’ORES – looks the safest call.
This 7 year-old finished runner-up two runs back at Hexham and then was travelling well when unseating Jon Bewley at the same track in May. Connections have given this grey time off since so fitness is taken on trust, but he’s also a winning Pointer so at least knows how to get his head in front. It’s probably really a massive ‘no bet’ race, but if you are getting involved then either get your pin out – or have a small interest on Rob.
