Saturday’s Challow Novices’ Hurdle 2023 will give horse racing fans a glimpse of some potential stars of the future.
The £48,000 race has been won in recent times by the top horses like Denman, Champ, Thyme Hill and the 2022 King George VI Chase winner Bravemansgame. While Cheltenham Festival winner Stage Star and Hermes Allen were the last two winners of the Newbury race.
It’s a prize that trainer Paul Nicholls has won for the last three seasons and five times in all, which has made him the winning-most hander in the history of the contest.
He’ll be pinning his hopes of adding to that record with Captain Teague, but after being turned over at odds-on last time at Cheltenham needs to win back his fans.

Challow Hurdle Tip 2023: Willmount To Give Henderson This Third Success
Trainer Nicky Henderson has two Challow Hurdles to his name. The first came in 2013 with Captain Cutter and his most recent in 2018 with Champ.
Willmount has caught the eye of plenty after winning all three starts under rules – two in NH Flat races and last time out over hurdles at Newbury, so we know the track suits (watch below).
He looks the clear one to beat on that form and is already figuring high up in the betting with the best online gambling sites for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
Willmount looks to have the Paul Nicholls-trained Captain Teague to beat and with the top record in the race for the yard he’s hard to ignore. He impressed on his hurdles debut at Chepstow but was turned over at odds-on last time at Cheltenham and he’s not looked the finished article in the jumping department.
With that in mind, Willmount is the call, having been given a nice 51-day break since his last win and being a winning Pointer in soft ground then conditions should be fine.
