BLUE HAWAII caught the eye when third in a 1m4f apprentice handicap at Newcastle on her penultimate start, making the running over a track and trip that is rarely kind to pacesetters (the winner and runner-up both came from well off the pace). She returned to winning ways over the 1m6f trip at Wolverhampton last Monday, clocking a fast time in the process, and can follow up under a 4lb penalty. CORK 3.15
GLORIOUS SINGER is a big price for this 2m4f handicap hurdles, hardly surprising given her 22-race maiden status, but there was considerably promise in last month’s 14-1 fifth at Tramore. It was a huge advantage to race wide that day but she took the ‘swamp’ route on the inside rail and actually did well to finish just over seven lengths behind flattered winner BLOSSOM DE MAI, who was wide throughout. I want to attack this race from two angles – a sell of BLOSSOM DE MAI in the Spreadex 50-30-20-10 market and a small buy (or each-way bet) of GLORIOUS SINGER.
