The Sandown weather and going is going to be closely monitored by horse racing fans and the top trainers with the Esher track expecting plenty of rain in the build-up to their Tingle Creek Chase Winter Festival card on Saturday. This has also led to the course holding a 7:30am inspection on race day.
Sandown To Hold 7:30am Inspection On Tingl Creek Chase Day Morning
**UPDATE** – Sandown has passed their 7:30am inspection, but will monitor the situation through the morning with more rain forecast
Sandown Park got their two-day Tingle Creek Chase Winter Festival going on Friday on ground that is already described as soft (chase course) and heavy (hurdles course).
However, with a stack of rain forecast for the Esher area early on Saturday morning this has led the track to call a 7:30am inspection.
According to the Met Office site the rain is set to fall at Sandown between 1am on Saturday morning, with little let-up until 11am.
With the first Sandown Saturday race due off at 11:35am this forecast rain is cause for concern for the track officials. They will now need to pass a 7:3oam inspection – which is bang in the middle of the 10-hour rainfall.
âť— Inspection to take place at 7.30am tomorrow.
Due to racing today on extremely soft ground, and with forecast heavy rain tomorrow morning, we have called an inspection ahead of Betfair Tingle Creek Day.

Nicky Henderson Keeping Tabs On The Sandown Weather
Trainer Nicky Henderson is another that will be keeping a close eye on the Sandown weather situation as he runs the day’s two hot-pots – Jonbon and Constitution Hill.
Jonbon is the big favourite for the Tingle Creek Chase, which is the day’s feature event. While Constitution Hill is the red-hot market leader with the best UK horse racing betting sites for the rescheduled Fighting Fifth Hurdle.
Constitution Hill was due to run in the race last Saturday at Newcastle, but the weather got the better of that fixture too, with the race moved to this Saturday’s Tingle Creek card.
Henderson has made no secret that he’s not 100% comfortable with running Constitution Hill so close to his next intended target. The Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day at Kempton.
Adding that he doesn’t want to risk the horse on “terrible” ground. You can find out more about Henderson’s view here.
Therefore, if the Sandown weather takes a turn for the worse on Saturday morning this might give Henderson the excuse he’s been looking for to NOT run Constitution Hill.
Or, if the Tingle Creek card gets called off all together. Then the decision will be taken out of Nicky Henderson’s hands anyway.
