Newbury ITV Racing Tips 1-2-3 Selections On Friday 1st December
1:15 – 2m69y ‘Bet In-Race’ With Coral Fillies’ Juvenile Hurdle (Listed Race) (Class 1)
SportsLens 1-2-3 Newbury Day One ITV Racing Tips: WODHOOH is unbeaten since joining the Gordon Elliott yard, winning all three of her races since switching to hurdles.
The former Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly couldn’t win on the flat for the legendary trainer, but since being recruited by Elliott, she has looked a natural over hurdles.
With wins at Listowel, Punchestown and most recently Down Royal, Elliott brings her over to Newbury for this one and looks the one to beat in a hot looking juvenile contest. There is still plenty of improvement to come for this well-bred three-year-old and a win here could see her be targeted towards the Triumph Hurdle next March at the Cheltenham Festival.
Max Of Stars is respected in pursuit of a hat-trick and Rue De La Mer makes her stable debut for Dan Skelton in her first British start, so is also of interest.
- WODHOOH
- MAX OF STARS
- RUE DE LA MER
1:50 – 2m4f Coral John Francome Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (Class 1)
SportsLens 1-2-3 Newbury Day One ITV Racing Tips: NICKLE BACK is seeking a hat-trick after picking up two mightily impressive wins in his last two races.
He returned from a 236-day break in October to win by 24 lengths at Warwick before winning by 19 lengths last time out at Stratford, both in Class 3 company. Despite being in much deeper waters here, Sarah Humphrey’s charge is a classy jumper and should benefit from having two runs already this winter.
The Humphrey yard is also in fine form, recording three winners from her last nine runners (33%) and if Nickle Back can get to the front early on he could prove tough to beat.
Hermes Allen returns on his seasonal reappearance for a first start over fences and should come on from the run meanwhile Marble Sands won well over a slightly shorter distance at Ayr at the start of November.
- NICKLE BACK
- HERMES ALLEN
- MARBLE SANDS
2:25 – 2m4f Coral Racing Club Handicap Chase (Class 2)
SportsLens 1-2-3 Newbury Day One ITV Racing Tips: SAIL AWAY makes his first start since winning by 11 lengths at Ayr last April and also had a third Wind Surgery in September.
Dan Skelton’s seven-year-old usually runs well when fresh and if he is in similar form to that win last time out then he can have a huge say in this race. Plus, Harry Skelton returns to the saddle after Bridget Andrews was aboard last time and can help steer him to victory.
Sail Away does come down in a distance slightly, but has got solid placed form over a similar trip. He finished three lengths behind Jetoile on his penultimate start, who won a big race at Aintree when seen last in October.
The Big Bite won here in March and this gutsy 10-year-old should run well, and Frero Banbou finished a solid third in the Grand Sefton the last day and can be involved.
- SAIL AWAY
- THE BIG BITE
- FRERO BANBOU
3:00 – 3m Coral Long Distance Hurdle (Grade 2) (Class 1)
SportsLens 1-2-3 Newbury Day One ITV Racing Tips: MARIE’S ROCKÂ is our pick to provide Nicky Henderson with a fifth win in this staying contest. The six-time champion jumps trainer won this 12 months ago with Champ and looks to have a good chance once again with this classy mare.
She was last seen finishing second behind Sire Du Berlain in the Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree in April at her first attempt over 3m, and returns to this distance having stayed on well at the Merseyside course.
Marie’s Rock also has winning form on soft ground and with potentially testing conditions she can claim her eighth win over hurdles.
Paisley Park finished second in this contest last year and is respected given his strong staying credentials and Dashel Drasher could have needed the run when third on seasonal reappearance at the start of November.
- MARIE’S ROCK
- PAISLEY PARK
- DASHEL DRASHER
3:35 – 3m Play Coral ‘Racing-Super-Series’ For Free Handicap Hurdle (Class 2):Â
SportsLens 1-2-3 Newbury Day One ITV Racing Tips: HYLAND leads the betting for this one after winning with plenty in hand at Cheltenham last time out, completing a double in October.
Nicky Henderson’s six-year-old has impressed in both wins so far this season and despite having to give weight away here, he should be able to score in a weaker race.
Hyland also finished second here in March behind Emitom, who has not won since that success and the former looks in much better condition now and can pick up a third straight win.
Gentleman At Arms was a winner at Aintree when seen last and showed he can stay well, meanwhile Ramo was also in the winners enclosure recently for the in-form Venetia Williams yard.

- GENTLEMAN AT ARMS
