Newcastle United travel to the Parc des Princes to take on Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday in match week 5 of the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League, with both sides in need of the three points to boost their chances of qualification from group F.
The Magpies ran out 4-1 winners in the reverse fixture at St James’ Park but are currently bottom of the group, with PSG two points and two places better off.

Szymon Marciniak has refereed three games in the UEFA Champions League this season but is yet to officiate a PSG or Newcastle fixture. Marciniak was the man in the middle when Galatasaray beat Molde 2-1 in qualifying back in August, and he has gone on to oversee two group games since.

His first came back in the 2014/15 season and he has been a mainstay ever since, issuing 178 yellow cards, one straight red and five players have been given their marching orders for picking up two bookings. In terms of penalties, Marciniak has awarded 19 spot-kicks.
Tuesday’s clash will be the first Newcastle game he has officiated in the UEFA Champions League but the 42-year old has refereed PSG on four different occasions, including the 4-0 win over Barcelona and a 2-1 victory against Liverpool with both games coming on home soil.
