Former Sevilla and Brazil striker Luis Fabiano has taken a swipe at Manchester City star Erling Haaland and insists he would outscore the Norwegian in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Haaland At Manchester City

Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 for £51m the prolific Norwegian has not found goals hard to come by, scoring 69 goals in 71 games for the Cityzens.

As a result of his goalscoring exploits Haaland lead Manchester City to the treble last season, which included the Premier League, FA Cup and, of course, City’s inaugural UEFA Champions League title.

On top of this, Real Madrid target Haaland broke multiple goalscoring records, was the Premier League’s top scorer, which he is odds on to do again this campaign, and was awarded second place in 2023’s Ballon d’Or rankings, only losing out to the World Cup-winning Lionel Messi.

Surely no one thinks they could outscore Erling Haaland, do they? Everyone apart from Luis Fabiano apparently…

What Did Luis Fabiano Say About Erling Haaland?

Having plied his trade for the likes of Porto, Sao Paolo and Sevilla, Luis Fabiano was also a prolific goalscorer, notching 229 goals in 489 games for club and country, according to Transfermarkt.

In most instances, this would give him good authority to comment on a striker’s goalscoring exploits. However, with Haaland at the tender age of 23, he finds himself on 281 career goals, heavily outscoring the Brazilian.

So, why did Brazil’s 15th all-time top scorer Fabiano take a swipe at City’s Haaland? Speaking on the Benja Me Mucho YouTube channel, Fabiano said: “I would also break all of Haaland’s records. With this team, with the opportunities he has? This would break his record.”

Continuing, Fabiano said: “I also scored thanks to my teammates. But there is also my quality in front of goal. Haaland has 30 chances and scores 3 goals. If I had 30 chances, I would do 10 or 20. That’s the difference.”
