Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has offered a savage response to Altay Bayindir after the Turkish shot-stopper named him as his favourite Red Devils ‘keeper.

What Did Manchester United’s Bayindir Say About Van Der Sar?

Having joined Manchester United in the summer for £4.2m from Fenerbahce the Turkish shot-stopper has had to play second fiddle to fellow summer signing Andre Onana.

Still yet to appear in a Manchester United shirt, in a recent interview with the club the 25-year-old discussed his favourite Red Devils goalkeeper of all time, saying: “My favourite goalkeeper for Manchester United when I was younger, I watched a lot of games of Manchester United, and my favourite goalkeeper, I say this and Edwin van der Sar is a legend, I know him.”

What Did Van Der Sar Say About Manchester United’s Bayindir?

After the interview was posted on Manchester United’s Instagram account, van der Sar, who has been chief executive at Ajax since 2016, popped up with a comment, saying: “Hi Altay, will see you soon in Manchester and we will have a chat about goalkeeping but my favourite is still Andre (Onana) as you will know!”

Although van der Sar’s comment looks brutal on the face of it, Bayindir shouldn’t feel too disheartened due to the fact that van der Sar has worked on a personal level with Andre Onana whilst the Cameroonian was playing for Ajax.

Andre Onana, who joined the club from Inter Milan for £47.2m, is likely to remain as Manchester United’s undisputed number one for the foreseeable future, however, Bayindir may get an extended run in the side if Onana is picked for Cameroon’s Africa Cup of Nations squad in the new year.

Do you think Edwin van der Sar’s comment to Altay Bayindir was too harsh?
