The Melbourne Cup is officially here, with some of the world’s best horses set to go head-to-head at Flemington Park on Tuesday. Check out all you need to know about the Melbourne Cup prize money on this page.

Melbourne Cup 2023 Prize Money

The total prize money for the Melbourne Cup sits at $8million, with connections of the winning horse set to receive $4.4million. It’s one of the world’s richest handicaps, and most valuable turf races around.

There will also be a Melbourne Cup trophy awarded to the jockey, trainer and owner of the winner.

This race is highly regarded by so many in the horse racing community due to the illustrious prize money on offer, with up to 12 places receiving a handy cut of the $8million.

Vauban is the current 9/4 market favourite as Willie Mullins’ charge looks to win his third flat race in a row after success at both Ascot and Naas over the summer. He won the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot before triumphing in the Ballyroan Stakes in Ireland last time out.

Another prominent in the betting is last year’s winner Gold Trip. The six-year-old trained by Ciaron Maher and David Eustace won by two lengths in 2022, and has every chance of making it back-to-back wins in the Flemington Park feature race. He is currently priced at 4/1.

Anthony and Sam Freedman’s Without A Fight was 13th in this contest last year, but has been well backed heading into Tuesday. Following that race last year, he left Simon and Ed Crisford’s yard, and has gone on to win three out of his last four races for his new handlers. You can back the former British-trained horse at 7/1.
