BANKER: 3:40 Lingfield: AWESOME SPIRIT 5/4

First run for the Michael Appleby yard after coming over from Ireland and there has been some market support for this 3 year-old, which suggests he’s ready to rumble. Top jockey David Egan has been booked to ride and dropped into just a Class 6 Handicap here off a mark of just 65 looks to give the horse a nice UK opening.

It’s also interesting Appleby is sending the horse down from his Rutland base in Lincolnshire to run at Lingfield – a venue he’s got a fair 17% strike-rate at with his 3 year-olds.

LAY OF THE DAY: 2:10 Cheltenham: MY MATE MOZZIE 8/11

Just the four runners here and My Mate Mozzie sets the standard on hurdles form. However, this Gavin Cromwell-trained 7 year-old was beaten on his chase debut at odds-on at Fairyhouse earlier this month and has not always been the most resolute in a finish.

The tongue-tie is on today to try and help, but despite his superior form over hurdles and there only three rivals, he looks worth opposing at the prices – with little downside.

The other three seem to have squeaks on what we’ve seen to date and Paul Nicholls introduces Jetronic – a French recruit that has winning form on soft in France and could easily be one to mix it up with My Mate Mozzie.

STAT HORSE: 3:20 Cheltenham: ATLANTA BRAVE (e/w) 6/1

The Kerry Lee yard are in good order at the moment and one of their Cheltenham runners today Atlanta Brave looks very interesting for a few reasons. This 5 year-old was a fair hurdler – winning twice – but is switched to fences here for the first time on what looks a nice opening mark of 124.

Chasing has always been the plan for this horse – backed up by just having four runs over hurdles – and Lee has a decent 23% strike-rate with her horses having their chase debuts in a handicap.

Add in a solid 29% record with their Cheltenham runners over fences, which is the best on show from the trainers in this race, including the likes of Paul Nicholls – who is actually just 9 from 100 (9%) with his chasers here at the moment.

The final plus is jockey Richard Patrick, who also boasts a top record over the bigger obstacles at Prestbury Park (35%, 6 from 17).
