City Of Troy 5/2 For 2024 Epsom Derby Glory After Dewhurst Stakes Romp

City Of Troy has only raced three times but he’s already being billed as the next big Aidan O’Brien superstar to come off the Ballydoyle conveyor belt after his trainer declared him the best 2 year-old he’s ever trained – and he’s handled a lot.

City Of Troy Dewhurst Romps Leads To Frankel Comparisons

The mighty Frankel dominated the horse racing flat scene between 2010 and 2012 – winning all of his 14 starts – and the first of his big 10 Group One successes came in the 2010 Dewhurst Stakes, a race CITY OF TROY won impressively this season (watch below).

With that easy win many horse racing fans are now hoping we might be seeing the start of something great, with lofty likings to Frankel already being thrown about. Of course, City Of Troy has got a long way to go to equal the former Sir Henry Cecil wonder horse – nine Group Ones, for a start, and another eleven straight wins.

However, when a trainer like Aidan O’Brien pops up after City Of Troy’s Dewhurst Stakes win at Newmarket and says ” he’s the best 2 year-old I’ve trained”, there is certainly hope.

The Dewhurst win for O’Brien was also his eighth in the race and is now the joint record trainer in the contest with John Porter and Frank Butters.

How Will City Of Troy Fare As A 3 Year-old?

It remains to be seen if he’ll train on into the age of 3 just as good – but he’ll, of course, be kept for a big 3 year-old campaign next season with the top English and Irish Classics firmly on the agenda.

City Of Troy’s sire is a former US star called Justify, who won all six of his career starts, including the 2018 US Triple Crown (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes) – the last horse to win this trio of races.

The good news for City Of Troy’s future career is that his dad (Justify) achieved all his greatness as a 3 year-old (didn’t even race at 2), but the slight nigger is his dam – Together Forever, who was also trained by O’Brien had her best days as a juvenile but didn’t win a race as a 3 year-old (3 outings).

So, which bloodline will City Of Troy take into his 3 year-old career next year, remains to be seen.

Let’s just hope he can ‘Justify’ the hype.

Where Next For City Of Troy?

City Of Troy holds an entry in the Group One Kameko Futurity Trophy at Doncaster on October 28th, but it’s unlikely we’ll see him in action there, or again this year.

His next official entry is the Irish 2000 Guineas on 25th May 2024, but is expected to be added to the list of entries for the 2024 English 2000 Guineas on 4th May and the Epsom Derby on 1st June 2024.

City Of Troy Already The Big 2024 Epsom Derby and Favourites

The bookmakers are also taking no chances, with leading firm bet365 already going 5/2 on City Of Troy winning the 2024 Epsom Derby and just Evs to win the English 2000 Guineas.
