Dressing room leaks have been a staple of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford so far, but who are the most likely candidates from the squad to be the Manchester United mole?
TalkSPORT’s Alan Brazil recently reported that Ten Hag is the source of discontent in the ‘disgusted’ dressing room due to the way he has banished both Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
The Manchester Evening News have also published details on some players who believe Ten Hag has favourites in the squad who avoid criticism, whilst others are regularly singled out.
The Sun posted an exclusive following last month’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton at home, alleging that four players were involved in a heated post-match bust-up as Bruno Fernandes locked horns with Scott McTominay and Lisandro Martinez confronted Victor Lindelof.

Who is the Manchester United mole? Suspects explored:
Jadon Sancho?
Sancho and Ten Hag’s relationship has been well documented for quite some time now. The player has not featured for Manchester United since claiming he has ‘been a scapegoat for a long time’ on social media.
This was in response to the manager stating he didn’t name Sancho in his matchday squad to face Arsenal due to his ‘performance in training’. Sancho has refused to apologise and it’s expected he’ll get a January transfer.
The Englishman reportedly has ‘no relationship’ with Ten Hag anymore and the situation worsened in January when the manager told the press Sancho was dealing with ‘physical and mental issues’ – something he wasn’t at liberty to discuss publicly.
The former Borussia Dortmund star has been frozen out, is training on his own at Carrington, and can be considered one of the main suspects as the Manchester United mole.
Donny van de Beek?
Donny van de Beek signed for Manchester United in 2020 from Ajax but his time at the club has been nothing short of disastrous, making just 62 appearances in over three years alongside a loan spell at Everton.
He was denied a move to Real Sociedad by the club and has found himself at the bottom of Ten Hag’s pecking order – despite the manager’s familiarity with the player. He’s made just two appearances this season.
The out-of-favour midfielder can be understandably frustrated with his time in Manchester so far and is probably desperate for a change of scenery.
Christian Eriksen?
When speaking to a Danish newspaper during the international break, Christian Eriksen indicated that he was unhappy with his playing time this season and suggested that Ten Hag prefers other players over him.
In his first season at the club last year, Eriksen made 44 appearances – recording two goals and ten assists. He was pivotal in United winning the League Cup, reaching the FA Cup final and earning a spot in the top four.
However, he’s played 90 minutes on just three occasions this season amid increased competition from the likes of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat. Eriksen could also look to depart the club in 2024.
Harry Maguire?
Earlier this year in July, Harry Maguire revealed that he had been stripped of the Manchester United captaincy by Ten Hag which was placed upon the arm of Bruno Fernandes instead.
He admitted he was ‘extremely disappointed’ and it was no secret that Ten Hag used his best efforts to offload the defender this summer, but United couldn’t find an agreement with West Ham for a transfer.
Recently, Maguire told the media that his lack of game time cannot continue and he’s ‘not going to play once every month’. He pointed a finger at Ten Hag when stating his strong record under the Dutchman ‘speaks for itself’.

Anthony Martial?
Anthony Martial’s contract at the club expires next summer and it was also widely reported that the player was up for sale in the previous window, but no suitable offers came in.
Even when he starts, the Frenchman is usually forced off after the hour mark and he’s completed just a handful of 90 minute outings in recent years. Going out and purchasing Rasmus Hojlund said everything we need to know about Ten Hag’s opinion of Martial.
Ten Hag has been critical in the past of Martial’s availability and the player is another leading suspect to be named the Manchester United mole.
