Rio Ferdinand has shared his text exchange with Arsenal star Declan Rice following the ex-West Ham midfielder’s starring role in the Gunners’ victory over title rivals Manchester City.

Rice’s Role in Arsenal’s Victory Over Manchester City

Arsenal went into the game against Manchester City on Sunday having not won in their previous twelve meetings with the Premier League champions. The last time the Gunners beat City was in 2015, which was before Pep Guardiola’s arrival in Manchester.

However, following a starring display from Declan Rice in Arsenal’s midfield and a goal from Gabriel Martinelli late in the game, Arsenal ended their winless streak against the Cityzens, running out 1-0 winners.

Rice’s performance, along with that of the Arsenal defence, managed to restrict City to just four shots throughout the game – the fewest attempts a Pep Guardiola side has had in a top-flight game since April 2010.

Arsenal now head into the international break level on points with table toppers Tottenham and two points ahead of third-place Manchester City.

What Did Rio Ferdinand Say About Arsenal Star Rice?

Following the game, ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand decided to text Rice to congratulate the Arsenal and England man on his performance.

Speaking on his FIVE YouTube channel, Ferdinand said: “You know what, I text Declan this morning and just said ‘testament to you, that no one’s talking about the price tag’.

“And his response was absolutely bang on. Declan said: ‘Come on, I was doing the same thing at West Ham, Ri, and no one wanted to speak about it’.

“It’s true. What I said about Jude Bellingham before, transferring the level of performance and impact on your team, he’s transferred that to Arsenal.”

Declan Rice was last week announced in Gareth Southgate’s latest England squad and has now joined up with his England teammates for their upcoming fixtures against Australia and Italy.
