Chelsea will reportedly allow Romelu Lukaku to leave the club for just £37m next summer, having signed for £97.5m just two years ago.
What Happened To Romelu Lukaku At Chelsea?
After signing for the Blues from Inter Milan off the back of a Scudetto win and 24 goals in 36 Serie A games, Romelu Lukaku looked to be the missing piece of the puzzle for Thomas Tuchel’s Champions League-winning Chelsea side.
However, after initially starting the season well and scoring freely, Lukaku began to struggle for game time under the German coach culminating in an explosive interview. In the interview, Belgium’s all-time top scorer stated he was “not happy” with his situation at Chelsea and expressed his wish to return to Inter Milan “in the near future”.
Following this, Lukaku continued to struggle for game time and goals, finishing the season having notched just eight times in the league and was judged as the worst Premier League signing of the season by ESPN, before securing a season-long loan move back to Inter Milan at the end of the campaign.
Lukaku is now on loan at Roma where he seems to have rediscovered his form under former coach Jose Mourinho. Having scored five goals in six Serie A games, Mourinho recently made a dig towards former club Chelsea for underutilising the Belgian.

Lukaku’s Chelsea Escape Clause
According to the Daily Mail, before agreeing to allow the 30-year-old striker to join Roma on loan, Chelsea inserted a £37m release clause into the Belgian’s contract.
Having been in sensational form since joining AS Roma it looks increasingly likely that the Italian club will make the deal permanent but they could face competition from other clubs.
AS Roma would likely want to secure the deal as soon as possible due to Lukaku’s reputation as a difficult man to tie down.
Chelsea were keen to offload the striker in the summer, but Lukaku had other ideas. The 30-year-old turned down a move to Al-Hilal before sabotaging his proposed move to Inter Milan in favour of Juventus and rounded off an eventful summer by deciding he did not want to move to Juventus after all.
Where do you think Romelu Lukaku will go after escaping his Chelsea nightmare?
