The Dutch defender scored his first goal for Spurs in the win over Luton on Saturday, which ended up being the decisive strike in the game.

James Maddison worked his magic down the wing and spectacularly set up Van de Ven for his goal in a game that Spurs could have easily scored a lot more goals in.

After a first-half of missed chances, there was a feeling that it wouldn’t be Tottenham’s day, but new fan favourite Van de Ven made sure the supporters would travel home happy.

The giant’s winning goal sent Spurs top of the league, two points clear of Manchester City, who face Arsenal on Sunday afternoon.

Following the game, Van de Ven was speaking to TNT Sports and revealed the conversation he had with Son whilst travelling to Kenilworth Road.

“Incredible match, I think we showed a great mentality as a team and I am really happy to score my first goal in the Premier League and for Tottenham and the clean sheet is the best for defenders,” the Dutchman said. “I knew that Maddison likes the cutback so I stood back and he played it perfectly to my left and I tapped it in, amazing feeling.”

“It was funny because when we were in the bus and coming to the stadium, Sonny told me ‘we’re going to make your first goal today’ and I said maybe who knows and I scored my first goal, so perfect.”
