Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says his ideal solution to the VAR drama behind the Spurs vs Liverpool game is to have a rematch.

Audio behind the VAR decision to not award the Luis Diaz goal was released on Tuesday evening. In his press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Europa League match against Union-Saint Gilloise, Klopp was asked his thoughts on the released audio and what he hopes the outcome of this situation will be:

He said: “The audio didn’t change anything because I was not really interested in why things happen. I saw the outcome, I saw a goal, and I saw it didn’t count. It’s really important that we deal with it in a proper way.

“All the officials didn’t do that on purpose and we should not forget that. It was an obvious mistake and I think there would have been solutions for it.

“I think the only outcome should be a replay. That’s how it is. The argument against that is then everyone will ask for it.”

He continued: “A replay would be the right thing. That’s my view on it. I’m not angry at anybody. The only thing for human beings in general, no one should go for them, they feel horrible about it at night I’m 100 per cent sure. No one needs further punishment. I’m happy to discuss it but I’m here to prepare a super and important game.”

Klopp was also asked about the Curtis Jones red card incident. Liverpool appealed the decision during the week but they were unsuccessful and Jones will have to see out his three-match ban:

“I stick to the opinion it’s not a red card,” he said. “The referee was called to the screen to see a frozen picture. I would’ve given a red card for that but in real time it’s not a red card.”

“That’s how it is. On top of that Jota got two yellows for not touching the player once. I saw a wonderful team fighting about all odds in an incredible [game]. It’s not that we stand here with empty hands.”
